Today we started the morning in our beautiful hotel, and woke up in the most comfortable beds ever. We enjoyed the hotel buffet breakfast before leaving for the Li Fung office in Shanghai. At Li Fung we heard an interesting presentation from Pamela Chan on retailing in China. After the presentation Pamela led us on a tour of the Li Fung office in Shanghai as well as the product showrooms they have there. Touring the office was fun; we were able to see the large cafeteria area available to the employees as well as their gym and aerobic studio, game room, and reading room. After the tour we ate a lunch buffet provided by Li Fung before taking the bus to tour a clothing factory.
The factory we went to makes clothing for Kohl’s as well as other companies. The factory was very well kept. We were able to go through the whole process from testing the fabric to the end product. After the tour and talking with the owner of the factory we headed back into Shanghai for a Chinese Acrobat Show. On the way to the show we had some extra time and we were able to stop at Pearl City. The girls on the trip were so excited, and many purchased pearls for themselves or others. Stephanie and Mandy both purchased a single drop pearl for themselves. We were also showed how pearls are created inside the clam shell, and shown the difference between fresh and saltwater pearls.
The show was amazing, and all of the performers were very impressive. We saw everything from people jumping through hoops, and catching heavy pots on their heads, to acrobats flying through the air. Everyone loved the show. Afterwards we went to Ye Shanghai for dinner. Ye Shanghai was a beautiful restaurant with a variety of courses from sea food to lotus plant. After dinner we retired to our hotel to recoup for the next day.
