This morning we had a presentation from Kohl’s and it was interesting to hear about the relationship between Kohl’s and suppliers and how they negotiate prices and maintain positive relationships. After that we walked over to Polytechnic University. We saw a really cool 4D presentation and learned what Poly U had to offer. They have amazing facilities and impressive programs. We toured the technical, testing, knitting & sewing labs. It was really cool to see the students working on their projects. Every thing was really creative. We ended with a great dim sum lunch at the university.
We took a tour of the central denim mill. It was loud and dark and the denim had dyed every thing blue. It was interesting to see the elaborate process denim goes through before it’s even made into anything. Next we went to a sweater factory. The sweater factory was not what we expected. It was really new and had modern décor. It wasn’t very big and there were probably less than 100 workers present. In addition to their own brand, they produced high quality, expensive sweaters for other brands as well.
For dinner we went to the Jumbo Floating Restaurant. The huge boat was lit with thousands of lights and had beautiful ornate detail. This was another dim sum dinner with a heavy emphasis on seafood. Some of the dishes they served were sautéed scallops, bamboo fungus thick soup, baked crab with ginger, and boiled fresh shrimp (with the eyes still on). When they served the chicken, we were surprised to see that the chicken’s head was sitting on the platter for garnish. It was another great dinner in an amazing setting.
