We had yet another exciting morning at Li & Fung where we learned about their retailing sector which includes Circle K, Toys R Us, Cake Shop, and Trinity. We were fortunate enough to tour a few of these as well. Toys R Us stores in Asia are completely different that the stores found in the United States. The Toys R Us stores in Asia are more interactive for children and have more decorative displays, which explains why their average customer visits a Toyr R Us store once per week (vs in the US which visits a Toys R Us twice per year). Some of the items are more Western (ex: Transformer toys), while many of the items clearly reflect the Asian culture (ex: rice cooker in Hello Kitty kitchen play set).
After the store visits, we branched off into a few groups. A group of 10 of us went to a restaurant in Ocean Centre Mall to get a taste of the local cuisine. We had two types of soups, Dim Sum for an appetizer, and 6 different main courses. We all had the chance to taste a little bit of everything, and it was DELICIOUS!
After filling our stomachs, we went for a long and scenic excursion to Ladies Market, which is similar to China Town in New York multiplied by 483902478 billion. We've never seen so many people in our lives! The shopping was fantastic though. People bargained for everything from chop sticks to art to knock-off purses. It was definitely an experience we will never forget.
