Caitlin and Abby Days 1-3

Day 1
Ni hao China!  We arrived in Hong Kong slightly exhausted after the 15 hour flight, but the excitement upon seeing such a new and gigantic city made us quickly recover.  Our hotel is amazing, and everywhere we look there are skyscrapers.  Across the water on the drive in we could see Hong Kong Island, where there were the business buildings of multiple companies that we recognize, such as Panasonic and Philips. The dinner buffet that we had was fantastic.  We tried multiple new and exciting foods, including snake, bird's nest (which we found out is bird's saliva), sea urchin, suckling pig, dragonfruit, and mango soup.  The first day of our trip was a terrific start to a once in a lifetime experience, and we went to sleep looking forward to the rest of the trip.  This is a picture of us outside our hotel.

Day 2
The second day of our trip involved multiple new adventures.  Li and Fung presented to us in the afternoon about their trading as a whole and their sourcing relationship with Kohl's.  Since Li and Fung is the largest supply chain company in the world today, learning more about the company and how they operate was extremely interesting.  Through acquisitions and their investment in having the best people run the company, they have set a standard in the supply chain industry.

We also learned about LFUSA, which has a greater emphasis on product design.  After these two presentations, we were able to tour the corporate offices and see the showrooms that feature some of the products that the company develops.  The Coca-Cola room and the makeup room were our favorite areas. Afterward, we were able to go to Hong Kong Island for dinner, where we tried kangaroo and had Australian steak.  Li and Fung has been so generous to us during the entire trip thus far, it's incredible. Overall, the second day of our trip was a great experience that allowed us to learn more about Li and Fung and experience the bustling city of Hong Kong.

This is a picture of  the Soho on Hong Kong Island, a trendy area where we ate dinner and hung out.  It's very similar to Soho in New York City.

Day 3
Today was focused on learning about Li and Fung's Retail Operations here in Asia.  We learned that the company operates over 100 retail outlets in China, Southeast Asia and South Korea.  The retailers that they operate include Circle K, Toys 'R' Us Asia, Saint Honore Cake Shop, and Trinity brands.  We also learned a great deal about the Toys 'R' Us Asia Star Loyalty Card program, which is greatly successful because it awards customers with a package of benefits instead of just coupons.  The benefits that a star card holder would receive include member's days with great savings, specialized product launches, birthday rewards, and priority discounts on ticket sales for children's shows that tour in the area.  We also were able to see many of the stores in person, including a very bright Toys 'R' Us filled with children and their parents.  Overall, today was yet another adventure in our trip.  We're looking forward to sightseeing tomorrow!
